Due east of the San Bernardino County seat, the city of Montclair had its earliest beginnings as a Native American settlement. The area was known by several names before it was incorporated in 1956 as Monte Vista. A conflict over that name eventually led to the community’s being renamed Montclair two years later. With a motto that says “The People Are the City,” Montclair is naturally proud of its diverse population, which numbers more than 39,000. Strategically located on the Interstate 10 corridor, Montclair links the urban world of Los Angeles with the growing Inland Empire.
