Upland began its life as North Ontario, reflecting the area’s original function as an irrigation colony established by the Chaffey brothers who were instrumental in developing nearby Ontario. A name change and incorporation officially established Upland in 1906.The community’s focus was on citrus for many years, though growth has shifted “The City of Gracious Living” into a diverse residential and retail center of more than 70,000 inhabitants. Only 40 miles from Los Angeles, Upland still manages to retain its blend of rural and urban.
